Salutations, again.
I think this guy^ was a hero.
More about me and what I’m doing.
Student
I’m homeschooled. Homeschool gives me the chance to study the topics I want and the flexibility to take college classes and do volunteer work.
I have written three significant research papers; one on the international diplomacy involved in Texas annexation (which was published in the winter 2022 issue of the Concord Review and won the Concord Review Emerson Prize), one on the influence of the Cold War on the Civil Rights Movement which was published in the spring 2023 issue of the Schola, and one, my most recent paper, which looks at immigration policy in Texas during the 19th century.
Volunteer
I volunteer at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. I was a visitor guide for two years and am presently a docent in the Ten Stages of Genocide exhibit. I also serve as the President of the DHHRM junior board where I am spearheading a student-led workshop series including a workshop presented by me on how to be a changemaker.
I also volunteer at my local town hall as the Town Council Youth Representative where I have created a Youth Council to help engage youth in local politics.
Immigration Activist
I volunteer for Gateway of Grace, an organization that helps refugees and others who have migrated to America. With this group, I teach ESL and citizenship classes before school in the mornings.
I created JuntosDFW.org which connects Dallas/Fort Worth-area immigrants and refugees with critical services and humanitarian organizations. I am currently recruiting other high school students to help expand Juntos into other cities to increase its reach.
Philosopher
I particularly enjoy studying political philosophy. My favorite book is Dahl’s Democracy and Its Critics. It’s the most complete discussion I’ve seen about the democratic process. It doesn’t choose which aspects of the human experience to examine, rather it studies every aspect of democracy from the right of the state to coerce, to the differences between Republicanism and Democracy.
I am also the founder and president of my local area’s Ethics Bowl club and a member of the PLATO Student Advisory Council.
History Enthusiast
I love studying history, and looking at today’s issues through the lens of history. I am particularly interested in political history.
I won the State of Texas Richard L Walker Award for Texas Political History in the 2022 National History Day competition. In 2023 I won the Texas State Sons of the American Revolution essay contest. I also won the George Washington Leadership Prize and the Colonial Dames Award in the 2023 Texas State National History Day competition.
I am a co-founder and Vice-President of the History Club at UNT.
Gamer
My current favorite is Europa Universalis IV.
